About Oddly

Oddly is a small, curated collection of slightly weird, mostly delightful things: true oddities, explained, and clearly labelled fiction.

Oddly publishes two kinds of pieces. Weird Facts, Cosmic Questions, Nature Did It First, How It Started, Odd Places, Kitchen Science and Word Journeys are real: odd but true things about animals, science, places, language and everyday life, explained. Tiny Stories, Made-Up Words, Useless Inventions and Animal News are fiction, made up for fun. Every article is labelled as one or the other. Nothing here is news. Nothing here is political. Nothing here will sell you a product.

Who runs it

Oddly is run by one independent developer, not by a company or a media group. The same person built the site, wrote its editorial rules and decides what gets published. There is no newsroom and no staff.

Why it exists

For two reasons. The first is simple: to be a small, calm corner of the internet for curious reading. Short odd facts and gentle fiction, with no news, no politics and no outrage, that you can read in a few minutes and leave a little more curious or a little more amused.

The second is an open experiment: to see how far AI-assisted writing can go when it is labelled honestly and backed by sources. Every article says whether it is fact or fiction, fact-based articles show where their facts come from, and the whole process is described on its own page.

How it is paid for

Everything on Oddly is free to read. The lights are kept on by the small ads scattered around the page. If you enjoy your visit, the kindest thing you can do is tell one (1) other person about it.

How it is made

Articles are written with the help of AI, and the illustrations are AI-generated. Fact-based pieces aim to be accurate, but AI can get details wrong, so please check anything important before you quote it. Every new article is checked and approved by a person before it is published.
